Updated September 6, 2009 - The Global War on Terror (GWOT) healthcare use reports are official Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) documents summarizing how many Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans were diagnosed and treated at VA medical facilities. GWOT is the official Department of Defense name for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. These Veterans Health Administration (VHA) healthcare reports are prepared quarterly, and they are shown in chronological order starting with the newest report. However, there appear to be gaps of missing GWOT healthcare use reports during the past five years. The GWOT healthcare use reports are organized by month and year. For example, “gwot_health_dec_08” is the date of the GWOT healthcare use report for December 2008. GWOT healthcare use reports contain details about the sources of data and definitions of terms used. Please note the date of the GWOT healthcare use statistics is often several months before the publishing date printed on the cover of a GWOT report. Also note the GWOT healthcare use reports show a lower number of PTSD diagnoses because they exclude veterans diagnosed at VA’s “Vet Centers.” In contrast, VA’s GWOT PTSD diagnosis reports include veterans diagnosed at “Vet Centers.” |
