Veterans for Common Sense regularly uses the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process to request documents from the government about the human and financial costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, formerly called the Global War on Terror (GWOT). We post the results of our requests at our web site. The documents are available for free to anyone visiting our web site, including our members, Congressional staff, reporters, other non-profits, researchers, and the general public.

June 29, 2007 - Veterans for Common Sense is the only veterans organization using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to obtain reports from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) describing the escalating human cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Without our work, the Congress, the press, and the public would not know that 229,000 new war veterans were already treated by VA and that 180,000 filed disability claims against VA.
