A Word to the Wise - A Message for Veterans and Our Military

If I've said it once, I've said it many times, Senator John McCain is not really a supporter of the military, or of veterans of this nation.  I would submit that you could replace the voice and picture of our Vice President Dick Cheney for Senator McCain in saying "They volunteered".

The latest case in point is his shallow submission with another friend of veterans, Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), of a GI Bill which is being submitted to contrast Senator Webb's (D-VA) bill. Please see the news story at http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/sen.-mccain-seeks-cover-with-gibill-2008-04-22.html.

When I say he does not support veterans, do not dismiss this as rhetoric. While I agree that he supports adequate funding for the military, he cares nothing about the individual servicemembers. Look at his voting record on veterans issues...no, no, no, absent, absent, absent. And now, when many in Congress are supporting the care, education, financial well-being, and family support of veterans, the Senator can only provide another "bait and trap" enticement to put servicemembers repeatedly in harms way in order to earn less than the original GI Bill afforded to post WWII vets.

Do not be mislead. Senator McCain continues to oppose real change in the military posture, benefits for veterans and their families, including treatment of mental health cases, disability and pensions, and educational benefits. So who would be the recipient of the Senator's plan to continue funding the war? Defense contractors, QTC, Iraq?

So if you are sent to Iraq or Afghanistan multiple times, will one, two, three or more be the breaking point for your psyche, marriage, family, ability to learn, or seek gainful employment? Sure folks, he cares...not.

I will let you answer for yourself. But I will ask you to research and consider what his election would really mean to you as a servicemember and veteran.
