+Recommend this blog The court, the one McCain & Romney both like, found for Goodyear. Lilly Ledbetter v Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company concerned wage discrimination in violation of Title VII, and the improper, inequitable payment of wages based solely on the fact she was a woman. Defendant Goodyear did not argue that Ms. Ledbetter had been paid less than her male counterparts doing the same or similar work, or that she was paid less solely because of her gender. What they argued, and won on, shocks the conscience.

+Recommend this blog This morning’s senate judiciary hearing, where Attorney General Mukasey was the featured witness, alongside last week’s presidential signing statement that attached to President Bush’s recent signing into law of the military budget bill, brought again into focus just how decrepit and egregious has been this administration's behaviors over the past seven years.

+Recommend this blog Last evening, President Bush was ever so exercised over the demonic peril they posed to America, “I shall smite them down with my mighty veto pen. And I further say unto you, my beholden subjects, that henceforth on the morrow, I shall also direct with consuming oratory and executory order — not to mention with the signing statements that deliver me from the repercussionisms of all evil — that henceforth through my kingdom no royal treasure shall be let go on any besotten ear-marked project, so help me GOD!”

+Recommend this blog Ponder the fact that the War in Iraq, with its price tag nearing or surpassing $2 trillion is so sapping the common weal that the Dodd-Hagel scheme may be naught but a pipedream, and our inability to actually do what we must do to retain competitiveness in the global economy could very well send our sons and daughters and grandkids down the economic drainpipe.

+Recommend this blog As the fifth anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom nears, the fabulists are again trying to weave their own version of the war. The latest myth is that the "surge" is working. In President Bush's pithy formulation, the United States is now "kicking ass" in Iraq. The gallant Gen. David Petraeus, having been given the right tools, has performed miracles, redeeming a situation that once appeared hopeless. Sen. John McCain has gone so far as to declare that "we are winning in Iraq." Read how it's all spin.

+Recommend this blog An “I don’t know nothin’ bout what Bull Connor done or didn’t, it’s all just your opinion and mine’s different” is to me loathsome, active support of all the Bull Connors and what they represent everywhere. Maintaining a friendship with a friend of a Bull Connor, regardless of the rationale, is endorsement of the deprecations wrought by all the Bull Connors of the world.

+Recommend this blog The story retains urgent currency, yesterday, Vice-president Cheney said, “It’s a fact…” He was speaking on behalf of an expansion of the FISA laws concerning warrantless eavesdropping on our communications. But they lied then, at least 935 times. Other than by the dint of intentional ignorance or evil, why would anyone now believe anything uttered by any Bush official?

And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
This morning (January 22, 2008), the United States Supreme Court announced without further comment that it would not be hearing the Enron suit, the one that was on behalf of the retirees and other investors who lost from much to all their retirement savings to the shenanigans of George Bush’s most enthusiastic supporters.

+Recommend this blog Saying now everything was the fault of Bush and Cheney is at once wholly inaccurate, and extraordinarily dangerous. It lets all those Republicans who went along for the ride off the hook, to wax once again with a W mixed metaphor. NO! NO! NO! Don’t do it. At least never forget a Bush 41 aphorism: “Wouldn’t be prudent.”

+Recommend this blog Retraining the older, chronically unemployed worker, as the pundits and politicians like to propound, simply is an illusionary fantasy. The overriding questions for the country are what we ought to do, what can we do, what can we afford to do? And as our veterans return, often broken in many ways, how does this terrible scenario impact them?

+Recommend this blog First, The Mustang Major (that’s me) must admit that I knew nothing about this Veterans and Military Women’s organization evidently formed by women for women. Though that is their focus, they also support and depend on the support of us guys who strongly feel women must be viewed and treated with respect and as partners not inferior or playthings. If you are a male who feels otherwise, then this view is useless to you. YOU JUST WILL NEVER GET IT!

+Recommend this blog Among the many things that get me the most are the ‘whats’ and ‘whys’ that make the story from this morning’s Washington Post the least possible. The report tells of an Army officer, 1st Lieutenant Elizabeth Whiteside, now a psychiatric outpatient, who is facing a courts marshal for attempting suicide and endangering the life of another soldier. That’s something that’s typical of one of the ‘whats.’

+Recommend this blog Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly "high crimes and misdemeanors," to use the constitutional standard.

+Recommend this blog Reluctantly I read pro-war zealots blogs about as often as I pluck my eyebrows. I usually put it off as long as I can. It's painful but necessary. All of them go off on anyone daring to ask questions and seek accountability. It's almost as if they think the men and women in the military are supposed to be some kind of windup zombies with no thoughts of their own, just following orders and expecting nothing in return.
