Guide for returning veterans
Posted By Charles Sheehan-Miles at 6:25 AM

Hello all,

I'm writing because we've made a major change at VCS which we'd like you to help out with.

About a year ago we published the first version of our Guide for Returning Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, in order to produce a comprehensive resource for vets who needed help with readjustment, financial issues or other areas.

We've recently converted the guide to a wiki.  That means we're hoping to build it out as a much more comprehensive and collaborative resource, where you, our members and readers, can add and edit resources directly.

Is there a resource for returning vets in your area? Do you know of any programs or other useful resources that we haven't included?  Please continue any information you have.

This is particularly important right now.  In a few weeks, I'll be making a presentation at a large conference which is targeted at service providers and others who work with veterans with PTSD and other readjustment issues.  Thanks to your recent donations, we;ll be able to print thousands of copies of the print version of the guide to distribute at the conference, which means potentially it will soon be in the hands of many more veterans than ever before.

Before we do that, we want to make sure the guide is as comprehensive as possible.  Take a look today and help out.

That's a great guide, thank you. That should be given every veteran coming home.

I'm going to link to it from my sites if you don't mind. Thanks

CRAIG CLOSE
Dear Charles: Every veterans when he is discharge whether or not he needs any kind of meical care should enroll in the nearess VA Medical Clinic or facility. Because if he has any questions or may be suffering from PTSD he can get immedicate help for the first two years after he gets outs by Federal Law. If he believes he is having difficulty of any of the symptoms of PTSD he can get help immediately and should wait to see if they get better. The more any stress signs are put off the worst the agony gets and the harder it is to correct oneself and get control of it. I speak from my own experiences from the Vietnam War as it was almost 14 years after I came back before I got help for my PTSD.
