I’m calling out the Press-Enterprise newspaper

+Recommend this blog I’m calling out the Press-Enterprise newspaper. Sorry this is late. But as I was sorting the editorial pages to determine which I would keep, which I’d toss, in the Saturday May 3 edition of The Press-Enterprise (3512 14th St, Riverside, CA 92501), I came across “Protests only embarrass troops,” by a Dennis C. Wyckoff, resident of Adelanto, California, a small desert town perhaps 40 miles due north of San Bernardino, on US 395. (Parenthetical observation: I’ve been through Adelanto — a wholly unaesthetic, bust-blown burg of nothingness — several times and can attest there is considerably less than nothing to be said on the town’s behalf that would recommend it for anything save razing.) In his guest op-ed, Mr. Wyckoff begins with, “As a retired Navy chief petty officer, I have had to endure the hypocrisy, disdain and vitriol of the socialist Democrats of this country.” Within the body of his virulently partisan smorgasbord of the most un-American diatribe, he claims he is “a veteran of three combat operations (Libya, Desert Storm, and Somalia).” With this very self-anointed entitlement to squeal cacophonously, the retired sailor continues, “I have been vilified by those who claim their First Amendment right allows them to aid and abet the enemy.” And, “Our military heroes want to finish the job and come home victors, irrespective of the loss of life and sacrifice.” The absolutely incorrect kicker in his drool of toxin is this however, “The Democratic Party is chock-full of those who could never emotionally, physically or intellectually withstand the sacrifices of war.” Although you’ve likely heard all you need, to know where this fellow is coming from, certainly nowhere near Jefferson or Madison, “I am not a warmonger, but I welcomed the chance to protect the Hollywood elites and even O’Donnells’ [Rosie] right to call my commander in chief a terrorist. For those of you who have a big empty hole in your soul or nothing better to do with your lives, I want to tell you, from experience, that you are contributing to the deaths of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines. Please don’t protest for my brothers and sisters in arms. We don’t want it.” Mr. Wyckoff finally signs off with, “Our policies in Iraq and Afghanistan might not be palatable for everyone, but we are there for the safety and well-being of Americans.” Without ordering for any prioritization, let’s take this piece of screed, one foul lump of excreta at a time. Openers: I volunteered to join the United States Army June 22, 1964 (RA 16 805 398), and, for the three years that composed my enlistment, I served in the infantry. Although the noted author likely does not realize it, there are but 2 combat arms in our uniformed military: the Navy is NOT one of them. The two are the Army and the Marines. * I appreciate his service, but unless Mr. Wyckoff was in the Seals, being offshore of Libya, Desert Storm and Somalia, he was about as close to genuine combat peril as he is right now in his living room in the desert town of Adelanto. I’m just a tad unsure of the naval or air force potency those three had at the time. Although it’s my bet Mr. Wyckoff won’t, he can check the roll call of those lost, to learn which of our military branches have suffered the most losses. Hint: it ain’t the Navy! Moving on to Number 2, in our no-account countdown of scurrilous pedantry: Democrats as “never [being] emotionally, physically or intellectually [able to] withstand the sacrifices of war.” As a preface to my comments on this stream of digested bovine matter, I’m going to refer to the above by suggesting that being stationed aboard a US Navy vessel hardly composes a “sacrifice of war;” certainly not close to equivalency with patrolling the mean streets of Baghdad. But let’s check the statistics: Republican members of the House or Senate who are military veterans and Democrats. In the House, currently 38 Republicans served in the active military, 16 in only either the Reserves or Guard. Democratic vets with active duty number 33, with 9 members having served only in either the Reserves or the Guard. In the United States Senate, 10 Republicans served on active duty, five in either only the Reserves or Guard. Relative to Democrats, nine served actively, and four served only in the Reserves or Guard. Speaking of actual, honest-to-godawful-hell combat, without going back to either grunt.space.swri.edu/housevet.htm, or grunt.space.swri.edu/senatevet.htm, I know that Senators Ted Stevens, Jim Webb, John McCain, John Kerry, Jack Reed, Chuck Hagel and Daniel Inouye saw as much of it as they had to. (And by the way, Senator Daniel Inouye, Democrat of Hawaii, is the only Medal of Honor recipient in either chamber of our federal government.) The same can be said of House members Charlie Rangel, John Conyers, Jack Murtha, Doc Snyder, and at least Duncan Hunter.* None of this propounds the tally as a contest, only to crush any proposal that somehow Democrats don’t have the “right stuff.” * May, 1965, I was third in line, rear of PFC Hendrix, who was on point, on a patrol snug up to the DMZ. Hendrix was blown to bits by a mine such that there wasn’t an entire pound of his flesh to send home. Don’t know whether welcomed-the-chance-to-protect-the-Hollywood-elites retired Navy chief petty officer Wyckoff ever had his guts ripped open by shrapnel that blew to bloody confetti a patrol member, but I seriously have grave doubts. ** Combat vets not sorted by party affiliation. Next in line is Number 3. The military is composed of men and women as diverse as the country they came from. Once and for all (like FOREVER!) could we just stomp into the earth any suggestion that each and all have one opinion concerning Iraq, and that they all march mindlessly in lockstep? Just the idea that any one person or direction of opinion nets each and all is so pathetically ludicrous that it should not require iterating. I can’t top Nebraska’s Republican Senator and decorated Vietnam War vet Chuck Hagel, but I can quote what he said to General Petraeus in the last hearing: “Let’s get one thing straight right now: no one can speak for all the men and women who are in Iraq, or who have served there. So let’s cut that out right now, shall we!” Fourth on this narrative of shame that I want to squat over is, “I want to tell you, from experience, that you are contributing to the deaths of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.” The ONLY ones who contributed to the deaths . . . are those who pulled the polling booth lever or punched the card on behalf of the delusional candidate who sent them, again, and again, and again, and . . . It would be rather tough to put someone in harm’s way without first putting him or her in harm’s way. Once there, the best way to remove them from harm’s way is to remove them from harm’s way. This tautology may sound simple, but to Wyckoff it’s clearly an intellectual leap of the most incredible breadth. Fifth on my agenda of opprobrious invective against this most petite of chief petty officers is a strong remonstration against “finish the job and come home victors, irrespective of the loss of life and sacrifice.” Only one who has never approached the apron of acquainting the sting of battle would have the temerity to say anything so thoroughly reprehensible. Only a coward through and through would utter as did Wyckoff. Last may be the errant spitting cobra venom that splattered my eyes: “we are there for the safety and well-being of Americans.” Hmmm, and this axiom of idiocy mirrors the Senate and House hearings testimony of an entire parade of newly retired generals and a slew of recently released federal reports, all observing the United States of America is exponentially less safe and exponentially less capable of responding militarily to an international emergency, precisely how? (Case in point, see: http://news.aol.com/story/_a/top-us-commando-says-strain-of-war/n20080505180809990024 Admiral Eric T. Olson, head of US Special Operations Command, today reported that the strain of war was limiting our ability to be effective elsewhere.) All this said, sadly there is much like this toxic fume permeating the air in America. My effort here was simply to embarrass to shame both the author and the news-rag that published the evidence of the author’s seriously unbalanced state of mental health; a la “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” John McCain, eh? Although that it may have makes no difference, I couldn’t locate a counterpoint in the P-E to the drivel that was Protests only embarrass troops. Nonetheless, even if the rag had printed another perspective, the fact they gave this one anything more than an immediate and unceremonious toss into the trash speaks to the tragedy that is the paper’s editorial board. — Ed Tubbs Palm Springs, CARead more | 0 comments
"TOBY KEITH" Sings, overseas during War in Iraq / Afghanistan
108 recommendation(s).
+Recommend this blog In an Oklahoma Newspaper, today...the News Media, brought forth, information, on the trip to Iraq / Afghanistan, for Toby Keith, a Well-Known Country / Western Singer. Here is the Wording from that Report: OKLAHOMA TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF HOME TO AMERICAN TROOPS IN TWO WAR ZONES. Oklahoma Country Music Star, Toby Keith, Signs Autographs at a Military Base in Kandahar, Afghanistan, a Recent Stop on his Sixth USO Tour. His show there, Thursday Night was Interrupted by Mortar Fire, and Keith Signed the Autographs and posed for photos while he and the audience took, cover. Between a Sandstorm and Mortar fire, Oklahoma Contry Music Star Toby Keith's latest "United Service Organization Trip to U.S. War Zones, is turning into his Most Harrowing Experience. Thursday Night, Keith, 46, was Playing at a Military Base in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when Mortar Fire, Disrupted His Song, "Weed with Willie". The mortar attack sent Keith and most of the 2,500 Soldiers, in the Crowd, into nearby shelters. Curt Motley, Keith's booking agent, who is accompanying the Singer-SongWriter, on the USO Tour, said in an email, that they ran about 100 yards, to a concrete bunker, and hunkered down for about an hour. Keith spent the time posing for snapshots and signing autographs. The "American Soldier", Singer, Returned to the Stage, Once the All-Clear, was Sounded, although Against the Advice of a Coalition Military Police Officer. "He went right to the verse he was in, before the mortar hit, and he finished performing, the show, said Motley, who also is a member of the USO World Board of Governors. Sunday Morning, a Sandstorm stranded Keith's party at Camp Fallujah, in Iraq. The storm engulfed much of Iraq, Motley said in an email, sent Sunday Night. "We are covered in the fine moon dust-looking powder and we are indoors. The hallways appear to be smoking because ther is so much dust and dirt in the air, Motley said. The group passed the time playing basketball with Marines there, he said. Like the troops, the group also had to cope, Sunday, with the Extreme Temperatures in Iraq. "The temperature gauge, in one of the escort vehicles read 131 degrees, in the direct sunlight," said Motley. "I TRY TO SET THE STANDARD", TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS....SAID toby Keith, who grew up in Moore, Oklahoma, is on his sixth USO Tour of the Persian Gulf. He is Known for Traveling, not only to Large Military Bases, in the Safe Zones, but to Smaller, More Remote Military Bases. "I try to Set the Standard, to Encourage Other Entertainers to start to go", Keith said in an interview, Last Summer, with an Oklahoma Newspaper, Reporter. "You don't have to go as Extreme as I do. You Know, I get pretty high off, of putting on the gear and going into those places, when I see a Soldier, come running out there and shaking my hand, going, *I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'D COME UP HERE*. These guys might not have seen a soul, other than each other...from America, for 18 to 20 Months". The Norman Resident, came under mortar fire, during his USO Tour Last Year, too, and he was in Bagram, Afghanistan, when a Miiltary Helicopter similar to the one he traveled in, crashed near there. "When you've done (almost) 100 shows over there, though, it gets to be like anything else," Keith said-last summer. "They make sure that we're protected as well as we can be. The last thing they want is to have an incident where we go over ther and something happened to us." Toby Keith's Current 14-day Tour has taken him to "Forward Operating Base Gardez, Bagram Air Base and Forward Operating Base Fenty." He is set to perform 18 shows by the end of the tour. The tour has been dubbed "Toby Keith Biggest and Baddest Combat Zone Tour 2008". His new greatest hits album, "35 Biggestest Hits", is set for release May 6. THIS IS JUST "ONE EXAMPLE" OF "HOW FAR THE ...FRIENDS OF THE TROOPS...ARE WILLING TO GO...TO SHOW... SUPPORT FOR THE AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WHO ARE STATIONED OVERSEAS...ACTIVE-DUTY". Let Us All, be "JUST AS SUPPORTING TO OUR MILITARY TROOPS" AS TOBY KEITH HAS DONE, GIVING US AN IDEA, OF WHAT IT IS LIKE TO "BE A GREAT ROLE MODEL", from America, "THE HOME OF THE FREE / LAND OF THE BRAVE". "Today's Happenings"/ SBMV Veterans Program, with Hazel Davis

+Recommend this blog I was pleasantly surprised, when a Local Military Veteran, came by, with his brother, who resides in Texas. This brother had Retired from the Military, & had Never Applied for VA Benefits. He had served over 22 Years, in the Military, with some of that time, being in the National Guard, & Navy Reserves. This Veteran is like Many Others...didn't have any idea, about How to go about, filing for / obtaining the VA Benefits, to which he is also eligible. He was greatly pleased, when Hazel took the time, to "explain the process" and the information about the Various VA Forms, that are Available, from the Dept of Veterans Affairs. It is a slow process, in explaining to a Veteran, who has PTSD, that "the process of obtaining the Benefits from the Dept of Veterans Affairs...takes time", when these Veterans are in Great Need, for some Assistance. One Military Veteran, who spent about 3-years, in the Navy, during the Korean War, says that the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, CANNOT FIND HIS MILITARY RECORDS, & this Veteran, has been "diagnosed with Beginning Alheimer's / Senility". Even if he did get approved for VA Benefits, he'd never realize it, with the Memory Loss that is happening with him. Another Veteran & his wife, are living in poor conditions, with no improvements in sight, for the small income which they have for survival. This Veteran is "almost completely deaf". The Wife is a Recovering Alcoholic & they are both in need of Housekeeping / Homebound Care. This Veteran has Never Had Any Medical Services provided to him by the Medical Center of the VA. Both man and wife, have used Private Doctors. (Hazel is having to guide them, with much patience, for this couple to have the assistance, they need. This assistance was needed, very badly, for this couple, who have health issues, for persons who are of the Homebound Status). Just in the past 6 months, many Veterans have traveled from Out of State, to visit with Hazel. Hazel has Patience with the Veterans, and sometimes, it might take more than 3 to 4 months, before some Disabled Veterans, can "fully understand" the Impact of the Benefits to which the Veteran is Entitled to Receive from the Dept of Veterans Affairs. It is not that the "Explanations by Hazel, are difficult to understand" but it is the "health conditions of the Veteran & the Type of Medication, which they are taking, which can cause some of the Inability of the Veteran, to Fully Grasp the Depth of the Benefits, to which the Veteran & their family are entitled to receive". MANY VETERANS ARE QUITE SURPRISED AT THE NUMBER OF BENEFITS FROM THE VA, THAT THE VETERAN & THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE. None of the Veterans who visit with Hazel, ever complain, if the Process of the Claims, are Not Met, As Quickly as the Veteran might wish them to be. NOTE:Our Military Soldiers / Veterans (& their family members) Deserve So Much More, even, than any of us are doing... WE HAVE THEM, TO THANK, FOR THE CONTINUAL FREEDOMS, WE ENJOY, AS A CITIZEN, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Mr. James Derryberry, a Senior Citizen, came by to help with Preparation of the (Mailing) Boxes, which will be used, for Packaging the Items, to be sent to the Military Soldiers, who are Serving in Iraq & Afghanistan. John Jordan, a Military Veteran, of WWII, came by to help with Financing for the Costs of Postage, for the Packages, to be mailed. Gary Burdette, A Military of the Gulf War, came by to deliver some Letters, which had been written by the Children & Youth who attend one of the churches, in / near this community, in Oklahoma. Mr. James Derryberry, isn't a Military Veteran, but he is a Volunteer for "The San Bois Mountain-Valley Veterans Association of Oklahoma" which has been Established by Hazel Davis, as of November 11, 2007. Several boxes have already been packaged, ready to be shipped to the Soldiers of Active-Duty. More Boxes are Forthcoming, from Other Volunteers, who are helping with this Outreach Project. Stand-Fast.org Launched to Elect Veterans
61 recommendation(s).
+Recommend this blog We need heroes instead of politicians. There are millions of heroes who are USA Veterans. Is there any other group in our fine country who are better suited to say "knock it off!" Are our heroes waiting for a new fight? Have they already resigned themselves to the thought that they've already done enough? The dollar slipping, jobs leaving, our most productive companies including brain-trusts, being purchased by foreign entities. Bush has to use over 170 billion in foreign aid for the food crisis while getting approval for the military budget. Our politicians had a much easier time giving away the 170 billion for food, than fundingfor our national security. We continue our tradition of helping other countries while at the same time losing our ability to defend ourselves. The Stand-Fast crew believes that the media is way too involved in selecting the president. However, it remains within our reach to gain these 17 seats now and work towards the next 20 or more of the 60 seats we have identified. There are 17 Veterans running for key seats, and one for President. These guys need our support. We have been told that Washington is very concerned about the power our Veteran base has. We envision the "Warrior Class", a voting powerhouse which needs to be recognized that there is a common denominator among them. that seems stifled even to the point of being what they call "dumbed-down", which is awfully insulting to me. We hope that Stand-Fast will be the non-partisan headquarters that enables veterans and patriots to regain its well-deserved grip on taking our country back from those who are giving it away and showing weakness where there should be strength. See for yourself; join us today. Read more | 0 comments
