Ponca Indian Tribal Chief, "Standing Bear", left Oklahoma, in 1879, to Bury His Son, in Nebraska, and Wound Up, a U.S. as "ONE OF AMERICA'S EARLIEST *CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS*, to Stand-Out-Among-Men," so the saying goes.

The U.S. House, Voted, recently, to Honor "Standing Bear", 100 Years after he died in his native Nebraska.

Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, R-Neb., said "Standing Bear's *PLEA FOR JUSTICE & HUMAN DECENCY CHALLENGED THE HEART OF A NATION".

"Standing Bear" was the Chief of the Ponca Tribe, WHEN THEY WERE "FORCED" TO RELOCATE IN 1878, FROM NEBRASKA, TO WHAT IS NOW "OKLAHOMA".

Nearly 160 of the 730 Tribal Members, died from a Lack of Food or Disease; One of Them, was Standing Bear's 12-yr.old son, who made a Deathbed Request, to his father, that HE BE BURIEDE BACK HOME, ALONG THE NIOBRARA RIVER.

"Standing Bear" & about 30 Followers, left Oklahoma, in January 1879, for Nebraska, to Honor the Request, and the Ones that Endured the 500-Mile Trip, "WERE ARRESTED BY UNITED STATES SOLDIERS".

"At His Trial, *Standing Bear*, who had the Help of Omaha Attorneys & a Frontier Journalist, Raised His Hand and told the Judge:

** THAT HAND IS, NOT THE COLOR OF YOURS, BUT...IF I PIERCE IT, I SHALL ..FEEL PAIN. IF YOU PIERCE YOUR HAND, YOUR HAND, WILL...FEEL PAIN.  THE BLOOD, THAT WILL FLOW, FROM MINE, ...WILL BE THE ...SAME COLOR... AS YOURS.

I AM A MAN.... GOD...HAS ....MADE...US...BOTH.**

The Judge Decided that "Standing Bear, SHOULD BE DECLARED A "PERSON" UNDER THE U.S. CONSTITUTION.!!

"CHIEF STANDING BEAR, WOULD ...SPEND...THE NEXT FOUR YEARS, ...TOURING THE UNITED STATES,

ADVOCATING, FOR  NATIVE AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHTS, AND INSPIRING A GENERATION."

Ponca City, Oklahoma, has a Park and Museum, named after "Standing Bear, along with a Bronze Statue, of the Chief.

Oklahma's House Members Co-sponsored the Resolution Honoring "Standing Bear", which was Approved by Voice Vote, WITHOUT DISSENT.
