More on the car bombing and what may be a deadly screwup for U.S. troops
1105 recommendation(s).
+Recommend this blog A couple of news outlets are now reporting some disturbing news. Witnesses apparently say that when the troops arrived, they called out on a loudspeaker to clear the area, because there was a report of a bomb. After that, some of the soldiers gave candy to some children, attracting a crowd to one of the humvees. Then a car burst out of an alley and detonated. It very much raises the question -- why were they handing out candy to kids when they hadn't secured the area even to the extent of looking down alleyways? At a minimum, some new procedures need to be in place to prevent children from being exposed to this level of danger -- particularly since this isn't the first time. Suicide bomber kills a crowd of children
1260 recommendation(s).
+Recommend this blog This morning, the news is out that a suicide bomber rolled up to an Army Humvee, next to a crowd of children were apparently U.S. troops were handing out candy to kids.
26 were killed, apparently half or more of them kids. Here's the Washington Post article, but what I'm interested in are the reactions from Iraqi weblogs. Raed in the Middle decries what he believes is a policy of using Iraqi children as human shields. Mohammed and Omar, two bloggers who run "Iraq the Model", wrote: "The "patriotic resistance" struck another strategic target in Iraq today. They attacked Iraqi's hope and Iraq's reserves and future; they murdered Iraqi children again. Those pathetic terrorists are afraid of the future and of the children that are going to grow up to build, plant, serve and protect their country." You can find a long list of Iraqi weblogs at Iraq Blog Count. Update: This BBC story has more details and a video report. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4678207.stm# Here's the take of an Iraqi American, at http://fayrouz.blogspot.com/ Read more | 0 comments
