I'm not endorsing anyone, yet New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, a candidate for President, has the support of retired Army Lieutenant General Robert Gard, who calls for a well-planned withdrawal from the Iraq War quagmire. VCS posts Richardson's video describing his plan only as a service to our members to spark discussion about how to end the Iraq War without it turning into another Stalingrad. What do you think?

While television news overdoses us with distractions about OJ Simpson’s latest arrest, Blackwater USA was busy recklessly killing more civilians in lawless Iraq. Furthermore, while President George W. Bush and General David H. Petraeus spin tales of success without defining success, they run out the clock on the last 16 months of Bush’s term.

Although watching will be gut-wrenching for some, please watch the HBO documentary, “Alive Day,” on Sunday, September 9, 2007. In my view, this film’s target audience is Americans too busy shopping who forget our veterans work 24/7 in the most dangerous conditions to protect and defend our Constitution.

Our 4,077 U.S. military deaths in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are the worst possible consequence of military service. Yet what about our 250,000 wounded, injured, and ill combat survivors and their families who suffer for a lifetime?

What are the three major lessons for American citizens in 2007? First, register and vote - when you don't vote, you have let fear and apathy steal your freedoms. Second, read our Constitution so you know about the liberties our Revolutionary War veterans fought for. And, third, when voting, look at the candidates’ actions and votes, not their statements or their political party.

My wonderful wife and I were married in a beautiful ceremony at Fort McPherson, Georgia, on July 14, 1990. Our honeymoon ended July 31, and I flew back to the Army's 1st Armored Division the next day.

Free people do uniquely wonderful things. You see, democracy isn’t about being safe or about having a fancy i-phone. As Thomas Jefferson dreamed, democracy remains the quest for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

As a war veteran, I remember my oath when I joined the military. I agreed to protect and defend our U.S. Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Toward that end, join me in supporting the "no confidence" vote against U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for his attempts to destroy our Constitution.

Share your views with the press. Veterans and war are often reduced to two holidays, in the eyes of civilians and reporters: Veterans Day and Memorial Day. There are no reporters covering the Department of Veterans Affairs and veterans' issues full time. The failure to cover the human and financial consequences of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars must change now.

Disturbing facts keep pouring in regarding President George W. Bush’s highly controversial nomination of Michael Kussman to lead 1,400 medical facilities operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for a four year term lasting through the Summer of 2011.

My blog today points fingers at the specific people at VA responsible for VA’s crisis, and it offers some quick steps VCS supporters can take to fix these problems.

Sound off. Should Bush, Cheney and Rove use VA for partisan political purposes?
