The Politics and Excreta of Ann Coulter Mirror What the Right is All About If Rick Wagoner, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of General Motors wanted a particular line in the corporation’s Chevrolet division discontinued, it would be.
Have an easy quiz for you: Over the past ten years, which person has made more guest appearances on an NBC (includes MSNBC) program than any other?
I will not keep you in suspense. Ann Coulter made her first national media appearance after she was hired in 1996 by MSNBC as a legal correspondent. Since then, Ms. Coulter has been the dominant, and rather dominating, guest on General Electric’s broadcast and cable programs; The Today Show, Chris Matthews’ Hardball, Chris Matthews, et al. The ‘far left, liberal’ media the lady, and I use “lady” advisedly, has made millions excoriating certainly has an ax to grind. (By the way: 15 shots on NBC/MSNBC, 9 on CNN, 11 on Fox.)
To provide an element of background information, Ann Coulter was born in New York City to John Coulter, attorney for Phelps Dodge, the fully integrated multinational producer of copper and molybdenum, with mines and processing facilities in North America, South America and Europe and processing capabilities for other minerals as by-products, such as gold, silver and rhenium. (For your information, PD currently is developing one of the world’s largest copper/cobalt concessions, the Tenke Fungurume mine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The corporation also has a Wire and Cable group, which manufactures engineered products principally for the global energy sector.)
The family moved to New Caanan, the cliquish, quite closed way-up uppper class community in Connecticut, where she was raised.
So, of course, she has a personal history well rooted in daily struggles and financial hardship. She pulled herself up from the top rung of the ladder to the top rung of the ladder on her own Gucci bootstraps.
To offer a few remarks made by others, remarks that obtained severe condemnation across the political spectrum, as juxtaposition with those by Coulter, first consider these by US Senator and presidential aspirant Joe Biden and then by the notorious Don Imus. First, Biden’s thoughts concerning Barack Obama, as “clean and articulate” were spun to the point that the senior senator from Delaware might as well have referred to Illinois’ junior senator with the “N” word. Now, as to what got Don Imus booted off the air, was his description of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team as “nappy headed hos.”
As a disclaimer of sorts, not only have I been a political junkie follower of Joe Biden, I am as well one of every long-term US Representative and Senator from both parties. Joe is a straight-talker, and occasionally he slips and says things capable of being misreported. I would challenge anyone on earth to locate the first thread of evidence that Senator Biden’s body contains just one bigoted cell. As the few moments I tuned-in in the past persuaded me that Mr. Imus is thoroughly self-absorbed and unrelentingly boring, I’ve no clue what paths his heart genuinely treks.
But that’s neither my point nor purpose, bringing either into this discussion. It’s not to impale either fellow on their respective petards. Resurrection, of their words is, as I said, as juxtaposition with those of Ann Coulter, and to honestly inquire concerning why they obtain widespread slings and arrows while Ms. Coulter keeps getting invited back, and why progressives are content to roll their eyes.
Perhaps an analogy will better illustrate where I’m headed. Through the mid-30’s and to the very end in 1945, by-and-large, European Jews compliantly boarded the trains, but, ever since, Israelis have been proudly, defiantly, in-your-face “Never again!” What I want, what I believe most in the country want today is for the Democrats and all progressives to show similar backbone, to respond with equivalent outrage and defiance when they’re viciously attacked by the Right. But what we get is submissive whimpering and whining and slithering into the shadows.
When during a recent appearance on Fox News of her opinion over Hillary Clinton’s recent decline in a number of national, and especially Iowa, polls, Ann Coulter replied, “Hillary really is in trouble, which would be fantastic, but I won’t believe it until we see the dead body.” That followed her unabashed excoriation this past June, on a Good Morning America appearance, in reference to her "joke" about presidential candidate John Edwards, Coulter said “I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” In National Review’s online edition, relative to mid-East Moslems, she recommended “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert the to Christianity.”
As a business model for spreading his Word, it all sounds like something Jesus would propose. I think I read something along those lines in the New Testament.
Coulter is not the only one. There’s bloviating Rush and Bill and Sean and Michael “Savage” Weiner and Glenn Beck and coast-to-coast Clear Channel hosts loudly spewing the most discordant hate-speech, the most eggregiously unapologetic lies, and a population is split between those who wholeheartedly, worshiply watch and listen transfixed and those who sit on their “Oh well” discomfort.
Fact One: There are more Democratic military veterans in either the House or Senate, there are more Democratic combat veterans in either chamber, more medal awarded Democratic military veterans, and there have been since the end of WWII. Fact Two: With the exception of Colin Powell, Rich Armitage and Donald Rumsfeld, no one in the Bush administration served in the United States military (I’m intentionally editing out George Bush’s dismal ploy as he was the very first to truly ‘cut-and-run.’) and neither did a single one of the Right-wing talk show blatherers above, or Ms. Coulter, all of whom, born into and currently bask in the greatest privilege, quite bravely scream of their patriotic zeal to send, then keep someone else and someone else’s kids, into a combat meatgrinder, all the while screaming how progressives “Hate America,” and the progressives who actually bore the battles continue to just politely “If you say so” slip into the dark.
Don’t know about you, but seven years ago this army infantry veteran went to the window, threw it open and shouted to everyone I knew — all my relatives, my associates, my friends — that I was “mad as hell, and wasn’t going to take it any longer!” You vote GOP, you watch Fox News, you listen to any of the above, or buy their scurrilous, hate-filled books, and I want nothing to do with you. You won’t get a Christmas or birthday card from me. I won’t sit beside you. I won’t place myself in the same room with you. I won’t do business with you. Now, don’t get me wrong, it ain’t just your opinion and mine that differentiates us. It’s to the marrow deep.
Why does Ann Coulter keep getting asked back? She sells cars, and a lot of the other crap so many Americans want.
