“S.Amdt.2934 — To express the sense of the Senate that General David H Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.”

In the simplest, most outrageous terms possible, this GOP-Bully-the-Dems/Watch-the-Weak-Kneed-Dems-Fall-Over-Themselves-Apologetically gambit worked like a sure thing charm.

MoveOn.org saluted the appearance of General Petraeus before the House and senate committees with an ad that played on the officer’s name: “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?”

Personally, I thought the MoveOn.org ploy was sophomorically insipid, stupid well beyond anything that might dignify its utter silliness. Be that as it may, the ad’s tastelessness paled aside the administration’s and GOP’s smarmy, smearing efforts of recent years. And for President Bushmaster — a bushmaster is a highly venomous snake, extraordinarily dangerous to humans, that inhabits the Southern tropics (See, I can match ‘em bam-for-BAM!) — to suggest it was “disgusting” is so like a hog calling a wallowing pig filthy. I’ve spent considerable energy trying to erase the images of the Bush/GOP ads that went so over every line of decency on behalf of the “winning is everything and nothing else matters” philosophy; Willie Horton, John McCain’s black love child, Max Cleland (Lost 3 limbs in Vietnam) adjacent bin Laden . . .. 

So for the administration, for the Bushmaster, for the GOP to find itself suddenly overwhelmed in righteous pique just fails the righteous smell test. And for the Democrats to fall in line, puppy dog like, tails between their legs . . . at a time when they should have been calling out these slime-loving . . .. Urgh! Just makes me want to vomit. Like, hey! who here has the cajones  to call a hypocrite a hypocrite? Follows is the list of wimps. As the old saw goes, read it & weep.
