Sen. Webb raps Sen. McCain on G.I. Bill
March 2, 3008 - Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., strongly criticized leading GOP presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for not supporting Webb's new G.I. bill.
Webb spoke during an appearance Friday in Denver at the American GI Forum Mile Hi Chapter with U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, who is running for Colorado's open U.S. Senate seat.
"The one person who really ought to be on this bill is John McCain," said Webb. "John McCain constantly talks about how important this war is and constantly talks about how important military service is and as I’ve reminded him, 'John, Uncle Sam paid for your education at the Naval Academy, paid for your dad’s education, paid for your grandfather’s education….' I think the people who have already given this kind of service deserve to have their education paid for."
Webb said, "If John McCain will come on board, we’ll get this done pretty fast."
Webb repeated his criticism of McCain at a Colorado Democratic Party dinner that drew more than 1,900 attendees Friday night.
