Aug 29 Letter to Editor Mentions VCS: Veterans Earned Right to Vote

August 29, 2008 - I received an e-mail from the "Veterans for Common Sense," alerting us that President Bush and Karl Rove are attempting to block voter registration of at least 200,000 to 400,000 veterans.

On May 5, Department of Veteran Affairs Director James B. Peak issued a directive that bans non-partisan voter registration drives in federally financed nursing homes, rehab centers and shelters for homeless vets. As a retired WWII vet, this action by government officials - who sent these patriots into harm's way, causing the conditions they are suffering and dying from - is intolerable.

Unfortunately, the commercial media doesn't seem to feel this information important enough to publish in their papers, talk about on the radio or watch on television. Consequently, enough Americans are uninformed.

Voting is not only a privilege, it is a responsibility, and I believe a Constitutional right, as well as statutory code. There has been a great deal of news about amnesty for illegal aliens being able to vote. If any of the 535 Congress members provide amnesty for illegal aliens to vote, and the wounded veterans are prevented, they should be recalled.

The president and his conspirators should be impeached, and given due process for violating of their oath of office and provisions of the Constitution.
